We’re grateful to GalynSoo for their question to r/AskUK.
“What do UK houses have that others don’t?”
They explained what had prompted it.
“I just read that only about 5% of houses in uk has an air conditioner due to the cool summer there.
Any other known facts like this about homes and architecture or any other cultural differences? I would love to know more.”
As ever, the people of AskUK stepped up to the plate. These were some of our favourite responses.

Insulation and double glazing.
Here in Australia its freezing. Currently 11⁰ inside at 4pm.
To double glaze a house costs approx £15,000. A single story 3 bedroom.
I miss that sweet sweet insulation.

How about a structure called a “garage” but it’s really a large storage shed as it’s not big enough for a car.
