Hounslow Council’s Cabinet has approved the Opportunity Hounslow Business Case for Growth, an ambitious plan that sets the stage for economic renewal and long-term prosperity in the borough.
Opportunity Hounslow is a forward-thinking strategy designed to create jobs, attract investment, and build a thriving economy that benefits residents and businesses.
Hounslow, a global borough with a population of over 300,000 residents and home to 15,000 businesses, holds a unique position in the UK’s economy. Its diverse industries, from creative startups to logistics giants, are pivotal to its growth. With the upcoming national budget announcement, Hounslow’s focus on growth aligns perfectly with the government’s agenda for placemaking, making the borough a model for economic regeneration in London.
Earlier this year, Hounslow Council launched Opportunity Hounslow, Gateway to London, Gateway to the World, which allowed the Council to share its ambition for Hounslow and create a specific domain to share these ambitions with developers, investors, local residents, and businesses. The Business Case for Growth starts to go into far more detail on what needs to be done, why, and what the role of the Council is as a lead placemaker.
Cllr Tom Bruce, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for assets, regeneration and development, said:
“This is a pivotal moment for Hounslow and for the future of economic growth in our borough. As we move forward, it’s clear that growth must benefit everyone—this is about creating good jobs, building stronger communities, and ensuring that no one is left behind. The government talks about driving economic recovery and building resilient communities, and here in Hounslow, we are delivering on those ambitions.
“Our Business Case for Growth is not just a plan on paper; it is a bold, actionable strategy that shows we are ready to lead the way in economic regeneration, both for London and the wider UK. The message is clear: with the right investment and support, Hounslow will continue to be a key player in the nation’s recovery and future prosperity.”
Hounslow’s Business Case for Growth also addresses key challenges, such as the borough’s high Gross Value Added (GVA) per hour worked paired with one of London’s lowest median household incomes. By fostering inclusive, sustainable growth, the Council aims to create opportunities for all residents and ensure that wealth and opportunity are shared across the borough.
The Business Case for Growth is part of a broader strategy to enhance Hounslow’s economy, infrastructure, and public spaces, supporting placemaking efforts that strengthen local communities. By aligning local growth with national renewal from central government, Hounslow continues leading the way as a gateway to London and the World in setting a new standard for local development.
