Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity markets closed in the red for the sixth consecutive session on Wednesday (February 12), marking the longest losing streak in three months.
However, indices staged a sharp recovery from intraday lows, supported by financials. The Nifty ended 27 points lower at 23,045, while the Sensex slipped 123 points to 76,171.
The Nifty Bank index rebounded strongly, rising 76 points to 49,479, up 700 points from its day’s low. The broader markets saw mixed trends, with the Midcap index recovering 1,400 points intraday but closing 132 points lower at 50,756.
Sectorally, insurance stocks surged after the I-T bill retained the existing corporate tax rate. Auto stocks remained under pressure, with M&M and Eicher Motors leading the declines.
In earnings-driven moves, Ashok Leyland gained over 8% on a strong Q3 beat, while Siemens and HAL saw minor losses following mixed results. Jubilant FoodWorks missed margin estimates, falling 3%, while SAIL surged over 5% post-earnings.
