The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted seven more modules involved in the printing of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) in Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh. Nine accused have been arrested.
While four of them were located in Maharashtra, one each were in the rest of the three States. On February 20, in this regard, the agency had conducted simultaneous searches at 11 locations across Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar.

Earlier on February 8, the DRI had arrested two persons found to be the actual importers of high-quality paper with embedded security thread having inscriptions of “RBI” and “Bharat” (security paper) in Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh) and Bengaluru (Karnataka). In the follow-up action the next day, two facilities printing fake currency notes were unearthed in Thane (Maharashtra) and Bhiwani (Haryana). Three accused were arrested by the local police on the DRI’s complaint.
The latest action involved identification of an importer in Mumbai’s Vikhroli West. The agency zeroed in on a sophisticated facility for printing and finishing the fake currency, seized ₹50 and ₹100 notes and machinery/tools. An accused was arrested.
In Kolhapur’s Sangamner, the DRI found a similar set-up and two accused were arrested with the contraband. The questioning of the accused led to the busting of another module in Belgaum by the Kolhapur police, which arrested three more persons. In three other locations — West Godavari (Andhra Pradesh), Khagaria (Bihar), and Rohtak (Haryana), the importers of the security paper were traced. Three persons were arrested by the police in the respective jurisdictions.
