A woman aged in her 20s has died after a fire ripped through a house in Oxford on New Year’s Eve.
Emergency services rushed to a property in Hundred Acres Close, Headington, at around 6.25am today.
Paramedics rushed a woman to hospital but she could not be saved.
Neighbours have paid tribute to the victim and one witness, Shanice, 27, who lives a few doors down said she was ‘always smiling and saying hello’.
‘It’s just so shocking,’ she told the Oxford Mail.
Thames Valley Police said the woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police officers.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and an investigation is ongoing.
It comes after five people have been killed in a spate of fatal house fires across the country in the last three days.
Three men died after a fire in Croydon on Friday night, with another fighting for his life in hospital.
And yesterday, one person was killed after a blaze erupted in a living room at a home in Carlisle, Cumbria.
