Nifty closes around 25,100 with banks and IT being top laggards, Sensex falls 375 points

Intra-day, metal stocks saw a sharp rebound led by gains in Tata Steel and JSW Steel. Sona BLW emerged as the top midcap gainer, jumping 7% following reports of an order win from BYD. Meanwhile, Max Financial slipped after the IRDAI panel recommended no merger between insurers and non-insurers.
Defence stocks remained under pressure, with BDL and Mazagon Dock among the top losers. LTI Mindtree, Wipro and Axis Bank ended in the red ahead of their quarterly earnings. HDFC AMC gained post its results, but Polycab saw a decline. InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) shed nearly 3% on reports of weaker air traffic in the first half of July.
