A street in one of the UK’s most renowned seaside towns is home to properties that sell six weeks faster than elsewhere in the country. According to research by estate agent Upstix, houses in specific postcodes are sold in just 102 days, compared to the national average of 147 days. 

As well as being one of Britain’s most popular seaside destinations, the draw to purchasing a home on this particular street is the incredible views from the nearby beach, making it an absolute haven for property buyers

Westbrook Gardens, located in Margate, is the town’s fastest-selling street. According to Rightmove, the average house price on the street is £615,667, while the town’s average is £314,869.

Margate has become increasingly popular for those on the hunt for a new home. In recent years, the town dubbed “Shoreditch-on-Sea” has drawn many Londoners, with nearly 6,000 relocating to Thanet in the three years following the pandemic, reports the Daily Mail.

The mass move from London to Margate is believed to be due to properties being cheaper than in the capital, as well as the fact that they come with beach and sea views, facilities, and good transport links.

Richard Thomas, aged 54, purchased a home on Westbrook Gardens within 40 days of seeing it advertised last year.

He told the Daily Mail: “I came from Canterbury to be closer to the sea and better views. I’ve always loved the sea. I thought it would take a while. It was so quick. I was warned the demand was big and I would need to act quick. So I did. I didn’t hang around, I couldn’t afford to.”

The facilities manager also shared that he knows a couple that bought a property in just a month, and described it as “incredible”.

Andrew Miller, another homeowner, took just weeks to move into his Margate home, and described the area as a “buzzing place” with a quick turnaround.

He added: “Westbrook Gardens is amazing. We get the afternoon sun and we don’t get the wind. It’s right next to the sea. It’s also a tourist spot but not dominated or overun by tourism and that’s important.”
