Andrew’s frustration with the planning system is palpable, and understandable.
Members of the public are at the receiving end of bad behaviour from the planning profession, too. In fact, there are abusive behaviours across the board: from planners and councillors to developers.
Since my first campaign, I’ve experienced very personal and threatening abuse on X (formerly Twitter), and professionals attempting to falsely portray me as a millionaire “Nimby” who knows nothing about affordable housing – and that’s from planners and councillors alike.
At the examination in public of the new town plan, planning professionals attempted to undermine the credibility of our community group’s arguments and analysis, simply because we were not qualified with the same sets of initials as they were.
It takes two to tango. Let’s all call out bad behaviours across the board and seek a new culture of mutual respect and understanding.
Abuse must stop, and we should all play nicely in 2024.
