The most peaceful city in the UK has been revealed with homes available for an average of £178,545. New analysis of a variety of factors including air quality, population density and access to walking spaces has confirmed that the city offers more serenity than anywhere else across the nation.
The research was carried out by Room Aromas, a UK-based room aroma store, and revealed that Dundee is the most peaceful city in the UK. Located on the banks of the River Tay, Dundee is Scotland’s fourth-largest city. According to RightMove, houses have sold for an average of £178,545 in the city over the last year. Most of them were flats, sold for an average of £119,464, while semi-detached homes sold for £209,029 on average and terraced properties £154,585. Although there are properties listed from a guide price of just £25,000, including a flat on Provost Road that is going up for auction soon. Other flats are listed for around £45,000.
Room Aromas gathered information on the number of airports, population size, Air Quality Index (AQI), and walking tour availability from OurAirports, World Population Review, IQAir, and Tripadvisor. Scores were created between 0 and 100, with higher scores indicating more peaceful environments.
Dundee came out on top with an overall rating of 70.08. This topped Swansea in second place, Leeds in third and Edinburgh in fourth.
The city, situated between the Scottish counties of Angus and Fife, benefits from a relatively small population of 147,710. It also has excellent air quality with an AQI of just 6.
A spokesperson from Room Aromas said: “Dundee represents what a lot of people are looking for when they think about peaceful living. The combination of clean air and a manageable population size means less congestion, less noise, and more space to breathe. It’s proof that you don’t need to be isolated to find tranquillity.”
Known for its vibrancy and creativity, Dundee is Scotland’s only UNESCO City of Design. It is home to a picturesque waterfront and the popular V&A Museum.
The city is easily navigated by foot which means that new visitors can quickly become familiar with the area. It is also bike-friendly with a number of designated lanes and routes available.
According to Abertay University, Dundee is actually the sunniest city in Scotland. It gets more sun than anywhere else across the nation during the dark and miserable winter months.
As well as offering beautiful views of the River Tay, Dundee also benefits from being located close to a number of natural attractions. From mountains, beaches and lochs, the stunning Scottish landscape is only a stone’s throw away from the city.
Dundee also has a number of positive reviews on Reddit. Residents agree that the city is affordable with plenty of things to do.

You’re ten minutes on the bus from a great beach at Broughty Ferry, half an hour in the car from one across the Tay at Tentsmuir Point, easy access to proper mountains, excellent pubs, great food, good museums, art galleries, and a science centre, and some stunning parks. It’s a pretty affordable place to live, there are good schools, and a good university.”
