Monday, Jan. 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Established by Ronald Reagan in 1983, the annual holiday is commemorated on the third Monday in January each year.
Intended to coincide on or near King’s birthday (which falls on Jan. 15), MLK Day is a federal holiday and a day set aside to honor the legacy and contributions of the civil rights leader.
In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, most schools, government agencies and post offices are closed on Monday.
