IT stocks dragged the market lower, with the index tumbling nearly 5%. HCLTech was the top Nifty loser, plunging about 11% after weak Q4 results, while Infosys, TCS and Tech Mahindra also saw sharp declines. Persistent Systems and Tata Elxsi fell 5–6% post earnings.
Broader markets showed resilience, with the midcap index rising 115 points to 60,202 and market breadth favouring advances at 3:2. Stocks like IREDA, Exide, SJVN and Jubilant FoodWorks were among key midcap gainers.
Among movers, BEML gained nearly 4% after securing a ₹590 crore defence order, while Premier Explosives jumped 8% on a ₹350 crore export order. Sugar stocks rallied after the government’s signal on 100% ethanol blending, with Balrampur Chini up 6%.
