Millionaire investor launches UK’s most inclusive property network after one single mum’s honest confession – London Business News

A chance comment from a struggling single mother of three sparked a nationwide movement that has quietly become the largest property networking organization in Europe.
It started with a conversation Samuel Leeds didn’t plan for.
A single mother of three, a member of the Samuel Leeds Academy, told him something that stopped him in his tracks. She hadn’t spent a single day away from her children in years. She knew that business growth happened through people, through rooms, and through relationships built face-to-face. But she couldn’t get to the events. And she felt like the industry was leaving her behind.
Leeds, a millionaire property investor and founder of the Samuel Leeds Academy, made a decision on the spot.
“I thought, why does networking have to mean leaving your kids behind?” said Leeds. “It doesn’t. So we changed it.”
The birth of academy families
Within weeks, Leeds had launched Academy Families, a monthly networking concept designed specifically for parents who struggle to step away from their children. The format is simple but radical: business networking, property deals, and genuine community with the kids right there alongside.
Professional children’s entertainers are brought in to keep younger attendees occupied, while parents network freely in the same venue. Hotels with large, open spaces are selected specifically to accommodate families comfortably. And crucially, the whole thing is included as standard within the Samuel Leeds Academy mentorship, no extra cost, no barriers.
“The single mum who inspired this hadn’t had a day to herself in years,” said Leeds. “She knew the value of being around the right people. She just needed a version of that that worked for her life. That’s what Academy Families is.”
From one event to a national movement
What began as a single meetup has expanded to three active branches: in Birmingham, London, and Manchester, with around 400 members attending Academy Families events each month across the country.
The growth is part of a wider picture. The Samuel Leeds Academy now runs 53 Inner Circle networking groups across the UK, making it the largest property networking organisation in Europe.
Leeds himself attended the Birmingham Academy Families launch in February this year, bringing all four of his children. “They absolutely loved it,” he said. “And so did I. There’s something powerful about seeing parents doing serious business while their kids are ten feet away having the time of their lives.”
Deals done, lives changed
The events are not just social. Real business happens in these rooms.
At the Birmingham event, Leeds introduced Ellen Mensah, an Academy member looking for a property to manage, to another attendee who had an empty property sitting idle and wasn’t sure what to do with it. Leeds brought them together. They are now in business.
“That’s two people whose financial futures look different because they were in the same room,” said Leeds. “And that room only exists because a single mum was brave enough to say she was struggling.”
Ellen Mensah said the introduction changed the direction of her property journey. “Being at Academy Families put me in front of the right person at the right time. That connection came directly from Samuel, and it’s already turning into a real business opportunity.”
Inclusion as a business strategy
Samuel Leeds is clear that Academy Families is not a charitable initiative. It is a reflection of what he believes good business looks like.
“The best investors I know are not always the ones with the most time or the fewest responsibilities,” he said. “Some of the most driven people in my Academy are parents doing this around school runs and nap times. They deserve the same access to opportunity as everyone else.” The anonymous single mother who first raised her hand has since attended multiple Academy Families events – children in tow.
She told Leeds recently that it was the first time in years she had felt like a businesswoman and a mother at the same time without having to choose between the two.
