This Unique House In UK Has A Secret Cave Made By Owner Himself

You may have come across some unique houses while surfing on the Internet. These houses appear ordinary from the outside but are a beauty in themselves when explored. The case in point here is a hobbit home in Bridgnorth, Shropshire in England as it holds an amazing mysterious story with itself, garnering everyone’s attention.

Dracup’s Cottage in Bridgnorth seems like a tiny house with a typical terrace, two bedrooms and one bathroom. However, it is not what it looks like. The house boasts a secret cave in the basement made of sandstone with vaulted ceilings and ornate pillars. It is pertinent to note that the house formerly belonged to artist Antony Dracup. Besides the basic bedrooms, bathroom, living room, and the mysterious cave, the tiny house also has landscaped gardens and an attic room.

In what may leave most people amazed, Dracup, before he passed away in 2002, hand-carved and built the cave himself in the mid-90s. Carved in medieval-style features, the cave also boasts a long wooden table for a banquet adorned using old-fashioned candle holders and ropes hanging from the ceilings.

Dracup’s son Dennis said that his father revolutionised the cottage by decorating every surface. On a website about his father’s work, Dennis mentioned, “Every house that he took up residence in received the ‘Dracup treatment’ – arches, pillars, balustrades, moulding, marbling, graining, varnishing, stained-glass all designed and crafted from start to finish by his hand.” He added, “His persistence was rewarded with noticeably stronger chest muscles and extra living space.”

Notably, the property, which is the result of Dracup’s hard work and artistic skills, is currently being run as a holiday home. It was previously listed in 2016 for £200,000 (around Rs 2 crore) and is now being re-sold for £295,000 (around Rs 3 crore) on Rightmove.

An estate agent Nock Deighton described the house and its owner’s work as “Dracup’s Cottage is a simply unique home that must be seen to be believed”. He even added that the owners are embracing his work as the local artist Mr Anthony Dracup has still managed to keep alive the unique character features and integral artwork.
