SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – Two men were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of breaking into a vacant South San Francisco residence and turning it into a counterfeit currency manufacturing operation, police said.
Officers were initially called to the home in the 300 block of Arroyo Drive around 5:15 p.m. for a report of a burglary, according to the South San Francisco Police Department.
Police said a 41-year-old San Francisco man and a 37-year-old Seaside man were found inside the residence.
An investigation revealed the men forced their way into the home, changed the locks and began operating a counterfeit currency manufacturing operation, police said.
Police said officers also discovered evidence of identity theft, as well as various controlled substances.
The men were arrested on suspicion of burglary, fraud and counterfeiting, as well as drug-related crimes, police said. They were later booked into San Mateo County jail.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
