Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced a $100 million (about ₦133 billion) Investment Support Fund to encourage more local and foreign investors to establish businesses in the state.
Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba, the governor said the fund would help reduce the financial challenges investors often face when starting major projects, making Delta a more attractive destination for business.
“I am pleased to announce that the Delta State Government has set aside $100 million, approximately ₦133 billion, as a Viability Gap Fund to de-risk new investments in the state. This is a practical demonstration of our total commitment to ensuring that the agreements reached at this summit translate into real projects and measurable economic impact,” Oborevwori said.
The governor assured investors that Delta remains financially stable, noting that despite ongoing investments in roads and other infrastructure, his administration has not borrowed from commercial banks.
“We have not borrowed a kobo from any bank, and we have no intention of doing so. This underscores our commitment to fiscal discipline, prudent financial management, transparency, and accountability,” he said.
Oborevwori said the state offers investment opportunities in agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics and the blue economy. He also highlighted incentives such as tax and levy waivers for eligible businesses, improved security and the Ease of Doing Business Council as measures aimed at attracting more investors.
He added that the summit is designed to connect investors with business opportunities, create jobs, boost industrialisation and strengthen Delta State’s economy under his administration’s MORE Agenda.
