Amid the rebound of semiconductor stocks in the domestic stock market, domestic investors investing in the Japanese stock market are also buying Japanese semiconductor-related stocks intensively. The buying of Ilhak Gami, which expanded its investment destination to financial stocks last month, seems to be spreading again this month throughout the Japanese semiconductor supply chain, including semiconductor equipment, materials, and electronic components.
According to the Korea Securities Depository on the 16th, Murata Production Company ($5,319,242) was the top net purchase of Japanese stocks by domestic investors from the 3rd to the 14th. Semiconductor equipment company Tokyo Electron ranked second with $2.262,045 dollars, semiconductor material company Arisawa Manufacturing Co. ranked third and fourth with $2.132,434 and semiconductor inspection equipment company Micronix with $2.095,373, respectively. In addition, six semiconductor and electronic parts-related stocks were listed among the top 10 net buyers, including RS Technologies ($1.39412; 6th) and Global X Japan Semiconductor ETF ($1167,523; 10th), which invests in Japanese semiconductor stocks.
Looking at the size of the purchase, the concentration is higher. The net purchases of these six stock and exchange-traded funds (ETF) totaled $14,367,029, accounting for 73% of all the top 10 net purchases of Japanese stocks during the same period. Even if the scope is expanded to the top 20, related supply chain stocks such as Fujikura and Renesas Electronics were listed in large numbers, exceeding half of the total.
Compared to last month, the change in the center of gravity of the investment of Ilhak ants is clear. In July, the buying trend expanded to financial stocks, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) the top net buyer of Japanese stocks. However, until the 14th of this month, MUFG was pushed out of the top 50 net purchases. The buying of financial stocks has not disappeared much, with Japan Post Bank ranking 13th with a net purchase of $974,676 during the same period, but stocks related to semiconductors and electronic components are again at the top.
In Kioxia, a NAND flash company, the number of profitable sales has increased in line with the recent sharp rebound in stock prices. Kioxia was the top net buyer of Ilhak ants until May, but was pushed out of the top 50 net buyers in July. Then, until the 13th of this month, it rose to sixth place in total net purchases with net purchases of $970,2014 and then posted a cumulative net sale of $3.744,970 on the 3rd and 14th, ranking second in net sales.
Kioxia shares have rebounded quickly this month after plunging about 48% for the month of July. The stock price, which was 46,500 yen at the end of last month, rose to 53,740 yen on the 14th, soaring about 16%.
Expectations that increased investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure will lead to increased demand for NAND flash and storage devices are also supporting investor sentiment in Japanese semiconductor stocks. On the 12th, Kioxia and SanDisk unveiled 9th generation 2 QLC 3D flash memory technology aimed at AI and data-intensive applications. As the number of data to be processed in the AI inference process increases rapidly, expectations are growing that AI investment benefits will expand not only to high-bandwidth memory (HBM) but also to NAND and solid-state drives (SSD) that store large amounts of data.
Memory stocks were also strong in the U.S. market. At an investor event on the 13th (local time), SanDisk presented an average annual growth target of sales in the mid to late 10% range for fiscal 2028-2030 and cited high bandwidth flash (HBF) for AI inference as a growth engine. On the same day, SanDisk shares jumped more than 13%, and Micron also rose around 4%.
This atmosphere continued in the Asian stock market on the 14th. Kioxia rose 3.75% from the previous trading day, and SK Hynix also rose 3.26% to close at KRW 1.645 million. Ilhak Gami is making a selective move to increase the buying weight of the Japanese semiconductor supply chain again, while stocks whose stock prices have rebounded sharply are realizing profits.
