Stock Market News From Sept. 1, 2026: Dow, S&P 500, Nasdaq Down as Bond Yields Spike; Dell, Micron, Marvell, Strategy, More Movers

September brings the end of summer along with what’s historically been Wall Street’s worst month.

Tuesday lived up to expectations with all three major indexes ending in the red after bond yields rose to recent highs, oil futures climbed, and fighting in Iran dragged on.

The Nasdaq Composite sank 1% as the S&P 500 fell 0.7%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.8% or 418 points lower.

Tech analyst Luke Lango sums up what he calls the real explanation of recent market moves as a liquidity problem.

Lango flags Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh’s hawkish stance and oil-driven inflation as the two compounding forces fueling the market’s liquidity problem, and in turn, recent volatility.

The best-case scenario for Wall Street is a reopened Strait of Hormuz driving lower oil prices. Lower energy prices would mean cooler inflation and could bring down the odds of Fed rate hike.

Now, the challenge is getting to an effective peace deal as the back and forth between the U.S. and Iran heats back up.
