Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Market ends sharply lower as Nifty slips below 23,800 amid geopolitical tensions

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity markets ended sharply lower on Monday as heightened geopolitical tensions weighed on sentiment, with the Nifty slipping below the key 23,800 mark and closing at its lowest level in nearly two months. The Sensex fell 383 points to 76,133, while the Nifty declined 119 points to 23,779.

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: Indian equity markets ended sharply lower on Monday as heightened geopolitical tensions weighed on sentiment, with the Nifty slipping below the key 23,800 mark and closing at its lowest level in nearly two months. The Sensex fell 383 points to 76,133, while the Nifty declined 119 points to 23,779.

The Nifty Bank ended 281 points lower at 57,088, while the Nifty Midcap index fell 293 points to 62,786. Market breadth remained weak, with the advance-decline ratio at 2:3 and 37 Nifty stocks ending in the red, including 17 that declined 1% or more.

IT stocks were among the top Nifty losers, with Infosys falling 4% and Tech Mahindra declining 2%. Insurance stocks also came under pressure ahead of monthly business updates, with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company falling 4%.

Cable and wire stocks extended Friday’s losses, with KEI Industries declining 3%, while gold financiers slipped amid weakness in precious metals prices. Manappuram Finance fell 4%.

Among gainers, Eicher Motors and Maruti Suzuki rose around 1% each on the back of new launches. Vodafone Idea gained 4% after the Supreme Court rejected a GST demand against the company.

In the midcap segment, Zydus Lifesciences, Bosch, Supreme Industries, Nippon Life India Asset Management and Piramal Pharma emerged among the top gainers. PVR INOX and Zee Entertainment Enterprises fell around 6% each.

Avalon Technologies surged 9% following a positive brokerage note after its joint venture announcement. PC Jeweller, Rishabh Instruments, Hikal and CarTrade Tech were among the top small-cap gainers.
