A number of conventional homes across the borough have been targeted by developers of late for conversions to HMOs.
Houses in multiple occupation are residential properties where tenants from more than one household live together and share basic amenities like a kitchen.
A certificate of lawfulness was sought from Warrington Borough Council by applicant Lostock Property Group Ltd for number 34 Pickmere Street in Sankey Bridges.
This was to permit a proposed change of use of the property from a single-household dwelling to a HMO for up to six residents.
A certificate has now been granted by the council, paving the way for the conversion.
According to planning documents submitted as part of the application, the mid-terraced property will be altered to create six bedrooms.
In granting the certificate, the council said: “The proposed change of use to provide a small HMO would comply with the criteria of permitted development.
“It is therefore recommended that a lawful development certificate for the proposed development is approved.
“An informative is added to make clear that from September 25, planning permission is required for this change of use if the change of use described in this lawful development certificate has not taken place by this date.”
