This one’s been building for a while, but it’s now front and centre. The push towards higher EPC ratings isn’t just for landlords anymore. Homeowners are spending more on insulation, double or triple glazing, heat pumps and other efficiency upgrades because, frankly, energy costs haven’t dropped the way people hoped they would. That also means buyers are paying closer attention to running costs when they compare similar properties, especially if one home clearly needs more work to bring its energy use down.
The government’s continued focus on net zero targets means grants and incentives are still available for certain upgrades, and lenders are starting to factor energy ratings into mortgage products too. A poorly insulated home won’t just cost you more to heat. It could drag your property’s value down when you come to sell.
Low-Maintenance Interiors Are Winning
One of the biggest changes this year is homeowners moving away from materials that need constant upkeep. In kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms especially, people want surfaces that are easy to clean and won’t fall apart after a couple of years.
