Hampton Inn & Suites Cincinnati-Downtown and Homewood Suites by Hilton Cincinnati-Downtown have completed a $5.5 million renovation of their 249-room property at 617 Vine St. in downtown Cincinnati.

The six-month project, led by SREE Hotels LLC, included upgrades to guest rooms, public spaces and amenities such as the fitness center and guest laundry facilities, according to a community announcement.

The 14-story limestone building opened in 1926 as the home of The Cincinnati Enquirer and remained its headquarters for more than 60 years. Designed by Lockwood Greene and Company, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

It also gained recognition as the fictional Osgood R. Flimm Building in the television sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati.”

Many historic elements remain, including the gold entrance, elevators, mail drops and marble hallways.

“Taking pride in preserving the character and history of this iconic Cincinnati building while continuing to enhance the guest experience is incredibly important to our team,” general manager Aspasia Makris said. “These renovations allow us to celebrate the property’s unique past while providing our guests with refreshed accommodations, modern amenities and the level of comfort they expect when staying with us.”

The dual-branded hotel property offers complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi and a 24-hour fitness center. Hampton Inn & Suites rooms include streaming entertainment, while suites feature workspaces and wet bars. Homewood Suites accommodations include kitchenettes, dining areas, workspaces, sofa beds and streaming services.
