Ealing launches thriving towns programme

Ealing Council has launched a new £1.4 million Thriving Towns programme to improve the borough’s high streets and town centres, inviting residents, businesses, community groups, landlords, and local partners to help shape how the money is spent.

The scheme aims to create more welcoming, vibrant, and community-focused places through projects such as improving public spaces, supporting independent businesses, encouraging events, celebrating local heritage, and making town centres safer and more attractive throughout the day and evening.

The programme will support both borough-wide initiatives and tailored work in each of Ealing’s seven towns, recognising that each area has different needs and character. It builds on existing council strategies and regeneration work, including plans for North Acton, West Ealing, and Southall, as well as wider efforts to give residents more say in local decision-making.

Over the coming months, the council will work with local stakeholders to identify priorities. At the same time, applications are open for businesses and business-related groups to apply for grants for improvement projects. These could include inclusive public spaces, local economic initiatives, heritage projects, or ideas that strengthen town centre life.

Council leader Peter Mason said the fund will bring people together to turn local ideas into practical improvements and strengthen local economies. Councillor Monica Hamidi said the fund gives local people greater power to influence where they live, work, and spend time, and urged residents to share their ideas.
