USPS releases holiday shipping deadlines as work ramps up at local post offices

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is already prepping for the rush.

USPS says they made investments in new technology and logistical planning to improve overall delivery performance.

The postal service also says mail and packages will be delivered in 2.5 days in 2025. It’s a slightly faster time compared to 2024, when it was 2.8 days.

These numbers come from November 15 to January 9 in both years, but planning for these time periods starts a full year in advance.

“The Postal Service performed very well during last year’s holiday season, and we are even better prepared this year for the upcoming peak mailing and shipping season. We have been preparing all year for this peak season, and we have enough capacity to handle whatever comes our way,” Postmaster General David Steiner said.

USPS listed accomplishments ahead of the busy season:

  • Increasing daily processing capacity by deploying more than 600 package sorters.

  • Hiring more than 10,000 seasonal employees.

  • Launching a package tracking and reporting platform.

  • Opening new facilities.

  • Improving planning in certain markets.

  • New postal delivery vehicles.

  • Making returns easier through service kiosks.

  • Installing smart lockers.
