Clough Capital Partners L.P., an investment management company, recently released its Q3 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter reported that both the Clough Select Equity ETF (CBSE) and Clough Hedged Equity ETF (CBLS) maintained positive year-to-date returns despite a difficult quarter. CBSE, a long-only strategy, declined 11.25% during the quarter but gained 17.91% through September 30, compared with a 7.45% gain for its World All-Cap Index benchmark. Technology and industrial holdings weighed on performance. Meanwhile, CBLS, which uses a long/short equity strategy, fell 8.50% in Q3 but returned 13.30% year-to-date, also outperforming the benchmark. Losses in its long positions accounted for most of the quarterly decline, while the short portfolio also detracted overall. CBLS averaged approximately 90% long exposure and 38% short exposure during the quarter. Looking ahead, Clough Capital remains focused on opportunities in AI and computing infrastructure, including semiconductors, connectivity, data centers, and power generation, while using differentiated stock selection to identify companies whose long-term prospects may not be reflected in their share prices. The firm expects differences in business fundamentals, valuations, and market expectations to create opportunities for both strategies, while recognizing the potential for continued volatility. “Industrial holdings were another source of quarterly weakness, including Bloom Energy Corporation (NYSE:BE). These investments represent different expressions of infrastructure, power, and specialized industrial demand. Their quarterly contribution was negative, but evaluating their prospective value requires looking beyond recent price movements to the durability of demand, execution capabilities, and capital needed to realize the opportunity. A changing share price matters most when considered alongside a changing assessment of the business.”
