Ranchi: Police on Friday arrested three members of a gang involved in circulating fake currencies in Ranchi city during an operation conducted under the Argora police station area.
Addressing the media on Saturday, SP (city) Raj Kumar Mehta said the arrested persons were identified as Sahil Kumar alias Karan, Abu Hujaifa and Md Sabir. A total of 998 counterfeit and two genuine notes of Rs 500 denomination were seized from them, he said.
According to Mehta, the raid was conducted after deputy inspector general-cum-Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha received a tip-off about a few criminals making an illegal trade of fake currencies in the Kuldeep School lane. The officer said the Rs 500 bundles were used with the two genuine currencies put on the top and the bottom.
The SP added that the arrested youths had received training in the illegal trade from Delhi and had formed an organised group to commit the crime in Ranchi for the past year.
