BOC seizes P24.2M worth of undeclared cash at NAIA


The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said it intercepted undeclared foreign currencies amounting to P24.30 million from two passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

In a statement released Monday, BOC said $272,000 or approximately P15,912,272 was seized from a Filipino passenger on January 22.

On Jan.23, Customs officers at NAIA confiscated undeclared foreign currencies with a total peso equivalent of approximately P8,292,166.71 from a Japanese passenger.

These foreign currencies are worth $43,710; 15,040,000 yen and P62,000.

Inquest proceedings for both passengers have begun for alleged violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Manual of Regulations on Foreign Exchange Transactions, New Central Bank Act, and Anti-Money Laundering Act. —Mariel Celine Serquiña
