HIDALGO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The United States Customs and Border Protection seized over $185,000 of unreported U.S. currency.
On Thursday, CBP officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge were doing a secondary inspection on a 2017 Chevy, according to a news release.
Authorities discovered eight packages containing a total of $185,750 of unreported currency hidden within the vehicle.
“The seizure of unreported currency, which is often proceeds of illicit endeavors, denies the profitmaking from such activity,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
CBP officers seized the currency and Homeland Security initiated a a criminal investigation.
