Jaipur: The anti-gangster task force (AGTF) of the Rajasthan police arrested two people and seized fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 2.17 lakh, along with printing equipment, during a raid in city’s Jhotwara area Friday.
AGTF ADG Dinesh M N said the team targeted the counterfeit currency network operating in the Jhotwara police station area and arrested the suspects, identified as Mukesh Jat (27) and Mohan Saini (28), with 434 fake Rs 500 notes and seven counterfeit Rs 100 notes. A printer, ink and other tools used to make the fake currency were also confiscated, he said.
“This operation is part of our ongoing drive to dismantle organised crime networks. Our teams are actively pursuing gangs involved in smuggling and counterfeiting,” Dinesh said. The raid followed weeks of intelligence-gathering by a specialised AGTF team, including ASP Siddhant Sharma.
“Acting on a tip-off about fake currency circulation, our team confirmed the suspects’ activities through technical analysis and swiftly moved in with local police support,” said Sharma. A case was registered at Jhotwara police station, and interrogations are going on to uncover further links in the racket.
