Miscreants stab two, loot currencies worth over Tk 1 crore in Gulshan

Miscreants stabbed two people and looted Tk 80 lakh along with other foreign currencies in Dhaka’s Gulshan last night.

The victims are — Abdul Kader Sikdar, 30, owner of City Monetary Exchange in Gulshan-2 and his cousin Amir Hamza, 25. They are currently admitted to United Hospital.

The incident took place around 9:00pm in front of the Gulshan-2 DCC Market.

Mahmudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, told The Daily Star they received a complaint of attack and robbing of more than Tk one crore. The process of filing a case is underway, he added.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Police Outpost, said two persons injured by sharp weapons were brought in from Gulshan at night. After receiving primary treatment, they were taken to another hospital by their relatives.

Abdul Kader’s younger brother, Mintu Sikdar, said that Kader along with Amir was returning home at Gulshan-1 on a motorcycle after closing his place of business. Some 10 to 12 individuals, including one Yasin, intercepted the two near DCC Market.

The miscreants attacked them with rods and sharp weapons, injuring them severely. “They then looted $25,000, 20,000 euro, and Tk 80 lakh,” he claimed.

Mintu further alleged that four months ago, a group of people including Yasin had abducted him. A case was filed against Yasin and several others with the Gulshan Police Station regarding the incident. Yasin and his associates were later released on bail and had been issuing threats since then.

Mintu claimed that the same group was responsible for this attack.
