Hyderabad: Skeletal remains, believed to be of a middle-aged man, were found on Monday inside a locked and crumbling house in the Nampally market area.
Police said the man had reportedly been living alone in the house since 2015.
The remains came to light when a local youth entered the premises to retrieve a cricket ball and spotted the skeleton. He alerted nearby residents, who then informed the police.
A team from the Habeebnagar Police Station arrived at the scene, forced open the locked door, and found the skeleton in the kitchen.
A Nokia mobile phone, which was found near the body, showed over 80 missed calls and multiple contact numbers once it was switched on. NDTV reported that demonetised currency notes were also recovered from the house.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the man was unmarried and had been living in isolation.
His siblings told police that they had lost contact with him and assumed he had relocated. As he was living independently, no missing persons complaint had been filed.
“It was not clear when and how he died. The skeletal remains were sent for medical examination. It is looking like natural death, but the actual cause of death can be known based on the FSL (Forensic Science Lab) report,” the official said.
A case of unnatural death was registered, and further investigation is on, police added.
