You may not want to put all your hope into Presidents Day − since it is a federal holiday made to honor George Washington’s birthday.
Here’s what will be open or closed on Presidents Day from banks and USPS mail delivery to the stock market:
Presidents Day is specfied by law to be a federal holiday for federal employees in the U.S. − which designated as “Washington’s Birthday” in section 6103(a) of title 5 of the United States Code, according to opm.gov.
The stock markets on New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are closed for trading on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association also recommended bond markets close for the holiday.
Most banks will be closed on Presidents Day, or Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, according to The Federal Reserve.
The United States Postal Service will be closed, and mail will not be delivered on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026.
FedEx 1 will have modified service on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, but all other delivery options are expected to operate as normal.
UPS Store is open and UPS delivery and pickup services are available on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. However, UPS SurePost and UPS Mail Innovations deliveries will require an additional business day of transit time due to the federal holiday.
Presidents Day is not a state holiday in Indiana. However, Washington’s birthday is a state holiday and will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2026.
Some schools may close on Presidents Day, but several will remain open in Indiana. Be sure to check with your local school for details.
