On the heels of Valentine’s Day 2026 comes Presidents Day.
Officially known as “Washington’s Birthday,” it was the first holiday to be named after an individual president. It was established in 1879 to honor George Washington but has since expanded to celebrate all U.S. presidents.
But will the stock market and banks be open on Presidents Day? Here’s what you need to know.
When is Presidents Day 2026?
Presidents Day will be observed on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. The holiday falls on the third Monday in February each year and is held around President Washington’s birthday (Feb. 22, 1732).
Is the stock market open on Presidents Day 2026? New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq hours
According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Presidents Day is a federal holiday. Both the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market will be closed.
Here are the NYSE holiday hours for the rest of the year. Nasdaq follows the same hours and holiday schedule:

Who gets the day off work on Presidents Day?
Presidents Day is listed as one of 11 federal U.S. holidays, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
Most federal workers and many private sector workers receive paid time off.
Will banks be open on Presidents Day?
No, banks and their branches will be closed, as banks follow the federal holiday schedule.
Bank ATMs and digital banking features will still be in service.
Does USPS mail run on Presidents Day? Do FedEx, UPS deliver?
According to the U.S. Postal Service, post offices will be closed on Presidents Day, so you will not receive your regular mail or packages.
USPS Priority Mail Express will be the only service in operation.
FedEx will have modified delivery and pickup services, while other services, such as FedEx Office stores, will be available as usual.
UPS will operate at normal capacity on Presidents Day.
