
Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Nifty50 closed above the 24,700 mark while the Sensex gained over 400 points, led by a sharp recovery in banking heavyweights along with robust moves in metal and pharma counters. The Sensex rose 410 points to settle at 80,568 and the Nifty added 135 points to finish at 24,715. The Nifty Bank jumped 407 points to 54,068, while the Nifty Midcap index ended 368 points higher at 57,346.
Most sectoral indices closed in the green, with metals and pharma leading the charge. The Nifty Metal index surged 3% and the Nifty Pharma index advanced 1%, while auto stocks also saw buying momentum, closing nearly 1% higher ahead of key GST-related announcements. The volatility index slipped 4%, reflecting improved sentiment.
In the metals pack, Tata Steel, Hindalco and JSW Steel were among the top Nifty gainers, climbing up to 6%. Pharma names like Piramal Pharma and Glenmark Pharma rallied between 5-8%, while gold financiers Muthoot Finance and Manappuram Finance rose 3-4% in tandem with higher gold prices. Coal India gained 2% after a healthy August update, while Indus Towers ended in the red but recovered from the day’s lows as the company announced plans to enter the African market. Phoenix Mills, however, slipped 3%, giving up some of its previous day’s gains.
Among other movers, TBO Tek surged 15% after announcing a $125 million acquisition of Classic Vacations, while Ola Electric continued to rally, advancing 28% over the past three sessions.
