Simulation demystifies stock market for students

DAVENPORT, Iowa. (KWQC) – Students in the Quad Cities played the real stock market but with fake funds on Tuesday morning.

Students from 23 schools took part in the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge at St. Ambrose University.

Teams worked together to make decisions on when to buy, sell, or trade stocks and were able to evaluate their success.

Pleasant Valley teacher Janene Murphy said that this approach helps students understand how the market operates, removing the mystery around the process.

Participating high schools include Alleman, Bettendorf, Burlington, Calamus-Wheatland, Central DeWitt, Central Lee, Davenport West, Highland, Holy Trinity Catholic, Kewanee, LaSalle Peru Township, MidCity, North Cedar, North Scott, Pleasant Valley, River Ridge, Rivermont Collegiate, Thurgood Marshall Learning Center, United, Wapello, Washington, West Burlington and Winfield-Mt. Union.
