S&P 500 closes higher for a fourth day, Dow jumps more than 250 points


US Stock Market Highlights: The S&P 500 rose for a fourth consecutive session on Thursday (May 15), buoyed by easing trade tensions between the US and China after both sides agreed to temporarily cut tariff rates. A dip in Treasury yields also provided support to equities. The benchmark index gained 0.41% to close at 5,916.93. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 271.69 points, or 0.65%, to finish at 42,322.75. In contrast, the Nasdaq Composite lagged, slipping 0.18% to end at 19,112.32.

Tech stocks have led the charge this week. Nvidia and Tesla have surged more than 14% each, while Meta Platforms has gained 10%. Amazon and Alphabet are up over 6% and 7%, respectively. For the week, the Nasdaq is up 6.5%, followed by the S&P 500 with a 3.9% gain and the Dow, up 1.7%.
