In the historic criminal trial of former President Donald Trump in New York, jurors were provided with the initial insights into the arguments expected from both sides. The prosecution and defense teams presented their opening statements as Trump observed the proceedings.
During the trial’s first day, prosecutors called their first witness, David Pecker, the former CEO of American Media Inc. (AMI), the parent company of the National Enquirer. The state alleges that Pecker assisted Trump during the 2016 campaign by suppressing negative stories about him and targeting his opponents.
