Three-bedroom home goes on the market for just £230,000 – but there’s a huge catch

A three-bedroom townhouse has been placed on the market for just £230,000 but pictures of its interiors reveal why it’s so cheap.

The property on Applecross Close in Rochester offers a balcony with glorious views of the River Medway, as well as three sizable bedrooms and two bathrooms – all of which are coated in a glaze of black mould.

The kitchen can be found on the ground floor while a bedroom is located on the floor alongside the living room and balcony.

The second floor boasts the main bedroom with an ensuite, a third bedroom and a bathroom.

Given the state of the wallpaper throughout the house, you would be forgiven for mistaking the mould for an abstract pattern.

Outside there is a garage painted a duck egg blue and a small garden.

The property is offered freehold and has an EPC rating of C – which may drop once the mould is removed along with its effect on insulation.

The listing is held by Barnard Marcus of Hammersmith Auctions who praised the property – or rather its transport links.

Mr Marcus said: ‘Shopping amenities can be found locally within Rochester Town Centre lying to the north with a further range of amenities found within Central London located to the west.

‘Public transport links are available at Rochester Train Station and Chatham Train Station lying to the east along with a network of local bus services serving the surrounding areas.

‘The property is served by road links including the M2 located to the west and the A2 lying to the east. Recreational pursuits can be found at The Esplanade located to the north and at Baty’s Marsh lying to the south.’

But Reddit users called for the listing to have ‘its own health warning’.

The poster wrote: ‘This house is just awful. The mould is all the way through ! Only £230,000.’

A commenter said: ‘If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have thought it was awful wallpaper. How bad are the other rooms that they didn’t even get a photo?’

A third said: ‘I’m coughing from looking at the pictures.’

Another user replied: ‘If this doesn’t sum up the state of the UK housing market, nothing else will.’
