Two elderly people have been found dead in a house in Rochdale after police responded to a welfare call made by a worried neighbour.
Police forced their way into a property at The Woods, near Castleton Moor, and found two people, aged in their 70s, lying dead inside.
They were soon joined by a huge emergency response team who descended on the quiet cul-de-sac, including forensics, fire crews and paramedics.
The couple’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and a Home Office post mortem will now take place. Investigations remained ongoing at the scene throughout the night, with forensics pictured in white suits seen entering the detached house.
Following the double tragedy, one stunned resident told the MEN: ‘We don’t really know the family but they’re an elderly couple. A really nice couple. It’s just two of them. I just moved here a year ago and it’s really weird to see that on your doorstep.’
‘It’s an elderly couple who live there and I don’t get to see them that often, we just wave when we’re going out.’
Another described the scene as they returned home from work, adding: ‘All I know is that I came home and saw lots of police. I know that a couple live there and I know that they’re elderly. I don’t know what happened but it looks pretty serious.’
A GMP investigation is ongoing and files will be passed to the coroner.
