Amazon: $25 Billion Investment In Mississippi Data Centers To Create 2,000 Jobs And Expand Cloud Infrastructure

Amazon announced plans to invest a total of $25 billion in data center infrastructure across Mississippi, marking one of the largest capital investments in the state’s history and expected to create approximately 2,000 high-skilled jobs.
The investment includes expansion projects across multiple counties, with an additional $11 billion allocated to Madison County and $1 billion directed toward Hinds County, where Amazon is transforming a former manufacturing facility into a modern data center campus. The company has also previously committed $3 billion in Warren County, contributing to a rapidly growing footprint across the state.
Amazon’s data centers will support cloud computing infrastructure used across industries, including healthcare, agriculture, and scientific research. The expansion is expected to drive broader economic impact by engaging local businesses and contractors, supporting thousands of construction and operational roles, and generating significant tax revenue for public services and infrastructure.
The company is also investing in energy and sustainability initiatives tied to the expansion. This includes funding approximately $300 million in grid modernization efforts in partnership with Entergy Mississippi, improving reliability while avoiding additional costs for existing customers. Amazon is also supporting renewable energy projects generating 616 megawatts of carbon-free energy, alongside efforts to reduce water usage, including transitioning its Canton facility to 100% recycled wastewater for cooling by 2027.
Beyond infrastructure, Amazon is investing in workforce development and community initiatives, including education programs, STEM training, and partnerships with local organizations. The company has contributed millions toward training programs, school initiatives, and community development projects, while supporting local nonprofits and food assistance programs.
The expansion underscores Mississippi’s growing role as a hub for data center infrastructure and reflects Amazon’s broader strategy to scale cloud capabilities while driving economic development and sustainability initiatives in local communities.
