April 3 is Good Friday, and although not federal holiday, it is a religious holiday with many schools closed for spring recess, though the USPS and banks open Friday, as do many retailers, restaurants, and crypto markets.
But is Good Friday a stock market holiday 2026, and is the DOW, Nasdaq and NYSE open? Or does the stock market close Good Friday?
Good Friday 2026, on April 3 this year, is a Christian religious observance commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, observed worldwide by Christians, with church services held nationwide, with many schools kicking off spring break by dismissing early or closing altogether.
A small number of states recognize Good Friday as a state holiday or legal observance, including New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut (court holiday), North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, and Kentucky. Hawaii recognizes it as a state holiday, and Texas considers it an optional holiday for state employees. In many states, local government offices may close, but it varies by state.
Regardless of whether or not your state observes Good Friday, here’s what to know about stock market hours, holidays and whether the stock market is open tomorrow, Good Friday 2026.
Is the stock market open on Good Friday 2026? Dow, Nasdaq, NYSE closed on Good Friday?

The U.S. bond market closes at noon ET on Good Friday 2026, on Friday, April 3. The bond market opens on Good Friday around 8 a.m. ET, but closes early, following the SIFMA recommendations. Commodity futures markets like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), observe Good Friday as a full trading holiday for most products, including CME Globex, trading floors, with clearing and settlement procedures applying. Check the schedules as some commodities may observe early closures.
There are regular CME hours today, April 2, with regular trading stopping at normal close at 5 p.m. ET. Trading resumes Sunday evening at 6 p.m. ET. ICE is a global exchange group, so exact reopen times may vary by produce and venue.
Some electronic trading platforms will remain active, such as foreign exchanges, OTC markets and cryptocurrency markets (24/7), but physical trading floors and OTC, or over-the-counter operations will be closed.
How to invest over Good Friday
You cannot trade US stocks on Good Friday, but you can invest before, since NYSE, Nasdaq are closed and futures (CME and ICE) are closed. Be sure to execute stock or ETF trade by 4 p.m. ET today, Thursday, April 2, according to MarketBeat.
So, you don’t invest on Good Friday, but you invest around it and plan before Thursday’s close ahead of Good Friday, experts say. Use the long Easter weekend to reassess portfolios and prepare for Monday’s stock market reopening.
