Leaders reaffirm commitment to economic cooperation, supply chain resilience, and sustainable growth at the 16th Singapore-Indonesia 6WG Ministerial Meeting
Singapore and Indonesia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation at the 16th Singapore-Indonesia Six Bilateral Economic Working Groups Ministerial Meeting (6WG MM) held in Jakarta on 9 June 2026. The meeting was co-chaired by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong and Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
The ministers discussed opportunities to deepen collaboration in key growth sectors, including the digital economy, green economy, industrial infrastructure, and agri-tech. Both sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation on supply chain resilience amid ongoing global economic uncertainties.
Progress was noted in the Batam-Bintan-Karimun (BBK) region, where several data centre investments are underway, including developments in the Nongsa Special Economic Zone and new projects in Batam and Bintan. Singapore and Indonesia also announced plans to jointly commission a study to identify future opportunities for the BBK technology sector.
On investment cooperation, both countries highlighted the upcoming 10th anniversary of Kendal Industrial Park in Central Java. The industrial park is expanding by an additional 1,000 hectares under its Phase 2 development, supporting future investments and job creation.
In the green economy, Singapore and Indonesian companies are advancing projects including the Sembcorp–PT Sumber Energi Surya Nusantara (SESNA) solar project and Indonesia’s first biogas-to-bio-methanol pilot project in North Sumatra. The inaugural Young Farmers Development Programme will also commence in June 2026 to strengthen collaboration in agricultural technology.
Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong noted that Singapore and Indonesia share longstanding economic ties and are working together to create new opportunities in emerging sectors while building resilient supply chains. He reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to remaining a reliable and trusted partner for Indonesia.
