KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Knoxville City Council approved several major public and private investments at Tuesday’s city council meeting, aimed at transforming the Magnolia Avenue corridor.
This approval will allow Mayor Indya Kincannon to proceed with plans for the City’s $3.1 million Phase 3 Magnolia Avenue Streetscapes Plan, which is already fully funded.
Adams Contracting will install new sidewalks, curbs, bike lanes, lighting, landscaping and transit stops on Magnolia Avenue between North Bertrand and North Kyle streets, according to a press release.
The release also states that the phase builds on about $9 million the City has previously invested to modernize Magnolia Avenue’s infrastructure, starting near Jessamine Street and moving eastward. Eventually, the city plans to continue this work all the way to Cherry Street.
Additionally, Council approved reducing the planned Jonathan’s Grille at 406 Willow Ave. from a three-story to a two-story building.
The Knoxville-Knox County Planning commission unanimously recommended the change.
