Police have released a 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, in northeast England.
The man was released with no further action, while a second man, aged 23, remains in police custody and is being questioned as investigations continue.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, killing 34-year-old Natalie McDonald and her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster, who was known as Tina.
A 48-year-old woman was also left in a critical condition in hospital, while three other people suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Cleveland Police said.
Natalie’s mother, Lisa Kirton, described her daughter as “a beautiful soul” who would have done anything for anyone.
She said Valentina had been staying at the house during the school holidays and had been dancing around the living room the night before the fire.
“She was a cute little kid,” Kirton said. “I can’t believe it, seven years old – it’s just a disgrace.”

Cleveland Police Assistant Chief Constable Dave Sutherland said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire were continuing.
He also said police were not currently linking the incident to a separate crash on the A66, in which seven people, including two police officers, died.
