Joanne Bowmer, who lives and works in Seaton, near Workington, was ranked 71st in the national Legal LinkedInfluencers rankings, which recognise individuals making an impact in the legal profession through their professional voice and online presence.
Ms Bowmer said: “When I started working in a law firm at 16, making cups of tea and coffee, I could never have imagined seeing my name on a national list like this.
“I’m just a property lawyer working from my home office in a little Cumbrian village who happens to be incredibly passionate about the Armed Forces community.”
Her posts generated more than 200,000 impressions and reached more than 82,000 people over the year leading up to October 12.
Ms Bowmer specialises in residential property law and supports serving Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families.
Her connection to the military is personal—her husband Ashley served with the 4th Battalion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, and completed operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Drawing on her experiences as a military partner, she uses her platform to highlight the unique challenges military families face, from buying homes and relocating to employment and balancing family life.
Her LinkedIn audience includes members of the Armed Forces community, military charities, legal professionals, and Ministry of Defence staff.
Her legal practice, which began as a small independent business, now employs military spouses and partners across the UK, offering flexible remote work and professional development opportunities.
Ms Bowmer also co-founded Beyond the CV, an initiative focused on breaking down employment barriers for military spouses and partners and encouraging employers to recognise their valuable skills.
She also offers a 15 per cent discount on legal fees to serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families, and donates £100 to the Duke of Lancaster’s Regimental charity for every completed Forces Help to Buy transaction.
Colleague Aimee Summers has pledged to donate from every completed legal matter to Reading Force, a military charity that helps serving personnel and their children stay connected through shared reading, particularly during deployments and periods of separation.
Ms Bowmer said: “I’ve never set out to become an influencer.
“I simply wanted military families to know there was someone who understood their lives and would listen to them.
“Sometimes I sit in my office wondering whether anyone is actually reading what I write.
“To discover that my posts have reached more than 82,000 people in a year is quite overwhelming.
“But those numbers aren’t what matters most to me.
“Behind them are real people, real families, and real experiences.
“If even one military spouse feels heard, or one family realises they aren’t alone, then every single post has been worth writing.
“The Armed Forces community has given me so much, both personally and professionally.
“My husband served, our family lived through the deployments, and now military families across the country trust me to help them with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
“I’ve always said to the Armed Forces community, ‘We’ve got your six.’
“And I meant every word of that promise.
“It’s not just about helping someone buy a house.
“It’s about making sure that, as the business grows, we continue to give something meaningful back to the people and organisations who support our military families.”
The recognition came during a standout week for Ms Bowmer, who was also shortlisted in two categories at the national Law.com Leadership in Law Awards 2026: Innovative Leadership – In-House and Trusted Adviser.
Her business is a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant and is awaiting confirmation of a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.
Despite her national profile, Ms Bowmer remains committed to West Cumbria and the military families who inspire her work.
She works as a Consultant Partner under Carbon Law Partners.
