Anthropic files confidentially for IPO, setting stage for landmark AI stock market de

Anthropic has confidentially filed a draft registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering, the artificial intelligence company said Monday.

The company said it submitted a confidential draft Form S-1, a step that allows it to move toward a public stock offering after the SEC completes its review process. Anthropic said the timing of any IPO will depend on market conditions and other factors.

The number of shares to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering have not yet been determined.

Anthropic said the announcement was made in accordance with Section 135 of the Securities Act of 1933 and does not constitute an offer to sell or a solicitation of an offer to buy securities.

The company, which develops the Claude chatbot and other artificial intelligence products, joins a growing list of high-profile technology firms considering public offerings amid strong investor interest in AI.

Last week, Anthropic announced a financing round that valued the company at $900 billion before the new capital was included, surpassing the $730 billion valuation reported for rival OpenAI in its most recent funding round.

An IPO by Anthropic would rank among the largest public offerings in the technology sector if completed. Other closely watched companies that have been reported to be considering public listings include SpaceX and OpenAI.

Anthropic and OpenAI have also pledged portions of their equity to charitable causes, meaning future public offerings could generate significant funding for nonprofit organizations.
