Market on Tuesday | Nifty above 22,700, Sensex up 685 pts
Indian equity indices extended their pullback for the second consecutive session on October 6, with the Nifty reclaiming the 22,700 mark and the Sensex gaining over 600 points, supported by broad-based buying and positive global cues.
At close, the Sensex was up 685.34 points or 0.95 percent at 73,067.81, and the Nifty was up 220.35 points or 0.98 percent at 22,776.10.
Broader indices also ended higher with the Nifty Midcap index rose 1 percent and Smallcap index added 1.5 percent.
Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HUL, HDFC Life, Jio Financial were among major Nifty gainers, while losers were Coal India, Tech Mahindra, Max Healthcare, ITC and Infosys.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Realty Index fell 0.7%, Nifty IT index shed 0.6% and Nifty PSU Bank index declined 0.3%. On the other hand, Nifty Bank, Consumer Durable, Energy, Infra, Media, FMCG, Metal, Pharma, Oil & Gas and Private Bank, Telecom up 0.5-2%.
