Market on Friday | Sensex, Nifty flat in rangebound session; smallcaps outshine
Markets failed to build on the previous session’s strong rebound and ended flat in a volatile session on August 21, as gains in metal, PSU Bank and realty stocks were offset by selling in auto, IT, media and pharma names.
Despite mixed global cues, the market opened higher but failed to sustain the gains and remained rangebound throughout the session, as investors turned cautious amid rising crude oil prices and persistent global uncertainties.
At close, the Sensex was up 3.11 points at 77,540.83, and the Nifty was up 20.15 points or 0.08 percent at 24,252.
For the week, BSE Sensex and Nifty shed 0.5% each.
The broader indices were mixed, with the mid-cap index ending flat, while the small-cap index rose 0.7%.
