Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: The Nifty 50 index is set to return to weekly gains as it steps into the final trading day of the first week of September. The GST cut cheer was short-lived on Thursday, as despite the stock specific moves, the index corrected over 250 points from the highs of the day to end nearly at the same levels as Wednesday.

With this, the Nifty is back within the 24,750 – 24,800 band, which has been a zone of resistance for the index. Despite this, the index will mostly end the week higher with gains of over 300 points, as only a close below 24,426 will drag it to a loss for the week. The pain lies on the banking index, which corrected 450 points from the high, and the broader markets, where the Midcap index fell nearly 1,000 points from the day’s high.

Continue to watch for consumption-orientated names and GST beneficiaries as to whether they build on to the gains or profit booking sets in sooner or later, which it did in some on Thursday itself. Watch for names like Zydus Life, IndusInd Bank and Shree Digvijay Cement on various news triggers.
