Sensex Today | Stock Market LIVE Updates: After a period of relative volatility, the Indian markets appear to have steadied their ship. The Nifty 50 index is once again in touching distance of the 25,000 mark, having gained over 200 points. The Sensex has also surged by 600 points.
Nifty Bank, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices also made a recovery.
Chemical shares surged in the intraday trade. In addition, IT stocks, along with real estate stocks, also made gains. Omaxe shares surged by over 11% after announcing a ₹1,000 crore investment in a new Amritsar township.
Amid the global uncertainties, the Indian markets started the day on a cautious note. The Nifty index started at 24,732.35, picked up further, and gained about 70 points. The Sensex index also started on a similar note at 81,034.45, lower than the previous open, only to recover and gain over 200 points.
Defence stocks, especially the shipping stocks continue to extend gains. Bharat Rasayan and other chemical stocks surged as well.
GIFT Nifty started trading with an uptick of over 80 points, indicating a gap-up trade.
US futures surged after a sharp sell-off on Friday night on Wall Street, while Gold prices are headed towards reclaiming their record high levels.
