
TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 350 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the industrial, technology and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 373.20 points at 36,180.72.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 347.87 points at 53,212.12. The S&P 500 index was down 34.23 points at 7,677.53, while the Nasdaq composite was down 89.63 points at 26,312.79.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.11 cents US compared with 72.00 cents US on Friday.
The October crude oil contract was up US$1.76 at US$85.16 per barrel.
The December gold contract was down US$45.30 at US$4,484.60 an ounce.
